Shirin Abu Shaqra

Nazl Lubnan (short story – 2006)

A Syrian valet parking draws the portrait of the hostel he lives in. The hostel has survived the Lebanese civil war without any change. The Sheikha governs the establishment as she sees fit and the customers (peddlers, beggars, night workers…) have been finding in it sanctuary for decades. Except that today, one of the main inhabitants is forced out by an ambitious politician.
